FAQ 01

What does a Biokineticist do?

Biokineticists use scientifically-based exercise prescription to either help prevent disease or assist in rehabilitation following the onset of disease or injury. Working alongside doctors, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals, a Biokineticist designs individualised therapeutic exercise programmes to improve physical function, manage chronic conditions, and support long-term wellness.

FAQ 02

What is the difference between a Physiotherapist and a Biokineticist?

A Physiotherapist is a first-line practitioner who deals with the assessment and rehabilitation of disease, deformity, and injury — using hands-on techniques like soft tissue release, mobilisation, dry-needling, and initial rehab exercises. A Biokineticist uses scientifically-based exercise prescription for final-phase rehabilitation to prevent reoccurrence of injury and improve overall physical performance. For example, a patient who has rolled their ankle will initially see a Physio for pain relief and joint range of motion, then be referred to a Bio to strengthen the ankle muscles and prevent the injury from reoccurring.

FAQ 03

Can you pay with medical aid?

Yes. We are contracted in with major medical aids and can submit claims directly on your behalf. This means less admin for you — simply provide your medical aid details at your first appointment and we handle the rest. Please contact us if you are unsure whether your medical aid covers biokinetics.

FAQ 04

Do you do Vitality testing?

Yes — we offer both standard and high-performance Vitality fitness assessments. We are also registered for Multiply, Bestmed Wellness, Omsmaf, Tiger Brands, and comparative fitness assessments. These assessments allow you to earn medical aid points and rewards while monitoring your health.

FAQ 05

How many sessions will I need?

This depends entirely on your condition, injury, and goals. The expected time frame and number of sessions will be assessed, explained, and agreed upon at your initial consultation. Most patients progress through phases of rehabilitation over several weeks to months, with regular reassessments to track progress and adjust the programme.

FAQ 06

How long is a session?

Your initial consultation is one hour long and includes a comprehensive assessment, discussion of your history and goals, and the beginning of your personalised programme design. Follow-up sessions are between 45 minutes and one hour, depending on the nature and complexity of your rehabilitation.

FAQ 07

What should I wear?

Please come dressed in activewear — something comfortable, easy to move in, and appropriate for exercise. Your clothing should allow for easy access to the joint or area being assessed. For example, if you are having a knee assessment, shorts are ideal. If in doubt, bring a change of clothes.
